Yes. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), vide an order dated 6th October 2017 (“Order”), has declared mandatory training for all Central and State licensed Food Business Operators (“FBO”) and food handlers.
FBO (Food Business Operators) as per FSSA 2006 have been defined as any undertaking, whether private or public, for profit or not, carrying out any of the activities related to any stage of manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution of food, imports and including food services
A food handler is anyone who works in a food business and who either handles food or surfaces that are likely to be in contact with food such as cutlery, plates and bowls. A food handler may do many different things for a food business.
Section 16 (3) (h) of FSS Act mandates that Food Authority shall ensure training of Food Business Operator.
